I have managed to find a fix which has done the trick.I did a repair of the Apple Software Update and then immediately the i Tunes (in that order) in the Control Panel – Programmes and Features. If I did the repair in the other order it would not work.
I resigned myself to the fact that I would actually need to sift through some Apple Support forums. In one Apple Support forum thread, the users were mentioning that the issue resided with the Apple Software Update service on Windows. Head on over to Programs and Features and right-click the update app. Restarting the installer proved successful and the installation of i Tunes 12.3 completed without errors. According to the Apple site the following enhancements were made: Hi Dirk, Thank you for taking the time to reply to me.Some users are experiencing trouble installing the i OS 10 software update by way of the Over-the-Air Software Update mechanism.The problem is not subtle if encountered, the update halts and then displays a “Connect to i Tunes” screen similar to recovery mode, preventing the update from going further. Turn off i Cloud Music Library and i Tunes Match on i Phone: Tap Setting Click "OK". (For sync error 54) Read guide to fix i Tunes sync error (-54). As we know, i Tunes can’t sync data back to i Tunes library. You can use Any Trans to sync selected files from i Tunes to i Phone.
